Designated Research Schools
Woodfield Teaching School Alliance is working in partnership with Dr Barry¬†Frost at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln to promote the development¬†of schools as ‚ÄėUniversity Designated Research Schools‚Äô [UDRS].¬†We are¬†also jointly developing a ‚ÄėProgressional Model‚Äô (kitemark) to evaluate the¬†development of research capability.
Our vision is to demonstrate a ‚Äėculture¬†of research‚Äô whereby schools and universities work together as research¬†communities. UDR schools will appoint a Designated Research Leader to promote an¬†ethos of research in their school. The aim is for schools to promote research¬†throughout their school by actively both developing staff and pupils as¬†researchers. They would need to develop ‚Äėskills‚Äô in three areas: Finding Out,¬†Skills Acquisition, and finally Presentation. For the evaluation process they¬†would need to demonstrate each ‚Äėskill‚Äô twice in the course of up to three¬†projects.¬†The model being developed will assess to what extent school research¬†projects involve independent enquiry, creative thinking, reflective learning,¬†effective participation, self-management and team working.
